Understanding the ratings
SEER2 is a Department of Energy testing update intended to better reflect typical operating conditions than the earlier SEER method. SEER/SEER2 and EER/EER2 can help compare efficiency, but compare like-for-like ratings. EER2 measures performance at a 95°F outdoor condition; SEER2 reflects cooling across a season and a range of conditions.
- EER2 measures efficiency at a peak cooling temperature of 95°F.
- SEER2 measures efficiency across a cooling season; the published guide describes a test temperature range of 65°F to 104°F.
