Air Handlers
Learn about the indoor fan-and-coil component, why refrigerant matching matters, and features found across air-handler designs.
An air handler is the indoor section of a split heating and cooling system. It contains a blower and indoor coil; its refrigerant and capacity must be compatible with the outdoor heat pump or air conditioner. Compatibility is determined for the complete system, not by choosing an indoor unit in isolation.
Variable- and multi-speed blowers can ramp toward a thermostat setting rather than immediately running at full speed. This may smooth airflow and reduce perceived drafts or sound compared with some single-speed systems; actual Komfort and sound depend on equipment, ductwork, installation, and settings.
